Paradise Ultrasound Renal Denervation System Receives
Good Design Award 2026

October 15, 2026

Otsuka Medical Devices Co., Ltd. (Otsuka Medical Devices) announces that the Paradise™ Ultrasound Renal Denervation (uRDN) system has received the Good Design Award 2026 from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. The Paradise uRDN system is a catheter-based medical device used as an adjunctive treatment option for patients with resistant hypertension.*

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people with hypertension worldwide doubled from approximately 650 million in 1990 to 1.3 billion in 2019.1 In Japan, an estimated 43 million people have hypertension, while about 24.5 million receive treatment, representing fewer than 60% of those affected.2

Hypertension remains a major public health challenge because it often presents few symptoms, but can lead to serious health risks if left uncontrolled, including stroke and heart attack. Some patients are unable to achieve adequate blood pressure control despite lifestyle modifications and antihypertensive medications. To address this medical need, Recor Medical, Inc., a U.S.-based subsidiary of Otsuka Medical Devices, developed the Paradise uRDN system as a new treatment option for resistant hypertension.

The Paradise uRDN system was recognized by the Good Design Award for addressing unmet needs in hypertension treatment and for its patient-centered design. The Paradise uRDN system was FDA-approved and launched in the U.S. in 2023, received manufacturing and marketing approval in Japan in August 2025, and has been commercially available under Japan's national health insurance system since March 2026.

As part of its efforts to raise awareness of resistant hypertension, Otsuka Medical Devices provides an educational website for patients and their families, offering information on the condition's definition, risks, and treatment options. The website is intended for people whose blood pressure remains difficult to control despite lifestyle modifications and medication.
